Chapter Twenty-Eight
Matt Scott felt like a cub reporter again as he sifted through all the information and notes he could find about what the young kid Kenyon was working on. He was first upset with Ryan for calling him and breaking his concentration and causing him to lose focus while trying to publish the paper. Now he thought he was onto something. Catawampus? What the hell did it mean?
He had to admit that it made him feel young again, like when he first started in the newspaper business. He would call Ryan just before the edition hit the streets as he promised and give him an update. He was proud of his work putting the pieces together. All he needed was to verify some leads and The Saint Louis Herald would be on top once again, being the first on the street with the scoop. The seasoned editor clicked his heels like a silly school kid. What a story!
Looking at his watch, he saw it was two-thirty A.M. and the usually bustling newsroom was now deserted. He grabbed the folder with the draft of his story and headed for the walkway that led to the garage. His car was parked on the tenth floor, corner spot with his name stenciled on the curb. They gave him his own parking spot rather than a raise, which was fine with him. He would have worked for free at the Herald he loved it so much.

He squinted not believing his eyes and turned off the engine and opened the car door to reach for the money. He had to leave the car to pull it from under the wiper and sure enough, it was a crisp new twenty-dollar bill. Holding the money he snapped it between his hands. My lucky day!
When he looked up he saw the big man moving towards him, his hands outstretched. He instinctively walked backwards, but the man kept coming towards him. The words didnât leave his lips as he went back further and further. It was all happening so quickly. His back bumped up again the outside wall of the building. There was nowhere else to go. He looked behind him then back at the silent interloper.
Chino pushed his chest with both hands and watched the longtime editor tumble into the air, his head bouncing off the wall. He landed with a loud thump some ten floors below. The editorâs body twitched once but then he was gone.
He grabbed the folder from the front seat of the dead manâs car and climbed into the sedan parked next to it. The
